Urban Justice (R) When a good cop gets blown away in a drive-by shooting, the police department writes it off as a random act of violence. Big mistake. That young cop has a father who happens to be a special forces-trained, street-fighting, nerves-of-steel avenger bent on one thing: justice.
Crushed by the death of his fiancée, a writer adopts a 6-year-old boy in a desperate effort to create a family. The boy, who wants a father badly, is troubled by the idea that he may be an alien from Mars.
A pair of well-meaning, but socially inept brothers try to find their perfect mates in order to provide their dying father with a grandchild.

An Insider’s Guide to Paris |

|
Here’s a first-hand, customized tour to help you enjoy a few days off-the-beaten path in this famous destination. I love Paris in the spring time ... the words of the Ella Fitzgerald song were running through my head as I thought about what to tell you about one of my all-time favorite cities. Like the songwriter, I also love Paris at just about every other time of year. The cold beginning of December when the shops are beautifully decorated and the dark streets alight in anticipation of Christmas. Mid-summer, when Parisians take off on their annual vacation, leaving theaters closed and Paris to visitors, and it can be so hot that sitting in a park cooling one’s feet in a fountain seems like the best option. The Jardin des Tuileries beside the Louvre seems way too formal for such behavior during the rest of the year, but when temperatures soar toward 90 degrees, many people do it. With the new high-speed train connection, Paris has become close enough to Germany to make a weekend visit so easy that it is tempting to go there several times a year.
Practicalities for ParisA word of warning: if you go at the weekend any time but mid-summer and are interested in art, it is a good idea to check at least a week before you go which big exhibitions are running, since tickets have to be booked several days in advance in order to make sure you’ll get in. For dance, theater or opera, check several weeks in advance. Parisinfo.com, the website of the city’s tourist office is one place to start or www.timeout.com/paris. |

BMW has freshened up the 3 Series Sedan to bring together a winning package of performance – 0 to 60 in 6 seconds – and 600 miles on one tank of diesel fuel.Back in December I described BMW’s 335 Coupe as a “night and day vehicle”. Shimmery and stylish at night, practical and efficient during the day. This time around I’m behind the wheel of the coupe’s counterpart, BMW’s 335d. While testing the diesel-engine member of the 3-Series, it’s the weather that showcased its unique attributes. It’s a rain or shine kind of car. Shining the light on diesel One day the record-breaking warmth and sunny skies played to the sleek exterior, spacious view out the wide windshield, the expansive cabin enhanced by a glass roof. With windows down and glass roof open, it was a chance to answer The Diesel Questions: Is the engine loud? Does it belch black smoke like a bus? I’m happy to say the engine isn’t loud. It rumbles when at rest but in a promising, powerful way. And nope. No black cloud. No grime. No smell. A test drive turned me into a convert. I could not keep my eyes off the miles per gallon gauge. Could it be at 25? Even in the city with stop and go traffic? It was astonishing to see the needle stay put at 50 mpg when driving on the highway at 55 mph (or that’s what I would have said, if, say a car with blue flashing lights decided to have a chat with me). BMW reports its Advanced Diesels with BluePerformance technology, filter and clean the exhaust before it leaves the vehicle. BMW goes on to say this is the cleanest diesel engine they have ever produced. With reduced emission to comparable gasoline vehicles, and near-elimination of both smoke and nitrogen oxides emissions, BMW Advanced Diesels meet the emission standards of all 50 states.

Volvo
Volvo Changes Across the Lines
How venerable Volvo stepped up its safety, design and performance to reach top-of-the-line status.
The other day, I was amazed to see an old Volvo 740 parked close to my apartment. Of course, I shouldn't have been surprised at all, as this model, like all other Volvos, has an average life approaching two decades. But what gave me pause for thought was that Volvo was still producing cars like this barely 12 years ago. Read More
Porsche
Driving Porsche’s New Cayman
Porsche’s newest model promises a powerful punch and everything else you’ve ever dreamed of. Years ago I worked with a newspaper staffer who grumbled about whatever job he was doing, to include complaining about assignments to drive some of the most exciting new cars in the world. In particular, Jim didn’t like Porsches, probably because he knew I never met a Porsche model that didn’t send my fun meter and blood pressure into the upper regions. Read More

BMW's Diesels Debut This Fall
Are Americans ready for diesel engines? Or maybe the better question: With gas prices skyrocketing and green attitudes bursting forth can Amricans resist a high performing, fuel efficient BMW 3 Series or X5 with a diesel engine? Those questions were bandied about earlier this year at Detroit Auto Show, where BMW announced the U.S. arrival of its two new diesel models, the 335d and X5 xDriver 35d. Read More
